Hello World!

As my first post I guess it will only make sense that I describe myself first.

Age: 22

Occupation: Student

Interests: mathematics, finance, computer programming, food, travel, lifestyle, real estate, tennis, rugby (union).

Hobbies: Currently studying takes up most of my time. In whatever free time I have left over I enjoy playing sports, mainly weight lifting but am exploring new activities. I spend a considerable amount of time on stackoverflow whether it be for my own interest, assisting others are traumatizing the next generation of coders.

Background: Born in Indonesia. Family migrated to Perth,  Australia when I was 2 years old. I lived in Perth until I finished high school before I moved to Melbourne to study commerce at the University of Melbourne. I spent a semester studying abroad at the University of Pennsylvania – Wharton Business School. After I finished my commerce degree I worked as a quantitative analyst at a boutique funds management business in Melbourne’s Collins Street. Whilst in that role I developed a interest and passion in mathematics and computer science. After about a year I decided to take up a second degree in science majoring in mathematics and computer science at the University of Western Australia.  I tutor business statistics for UWA as well as work as a trainee accountant for a family run office in South Perth. I am currently in my final year of my second degree and was lucky enough to secure two internships during the summer holidays of 2013/14.

Aspirations: Right now my dream is to pursue a career where I can combine my interests in mathematics, programming and finance. I have been fortunate enough to do an internship within a global investment bank in Sydney where I assisted with calibration of models and unit testing of trading platforms. This experience was amazing and I learnt a lot from it. My time for this internship is drawing to a close and soon I will commence my second internship at a big four accounting firm within their analytics team. I have heard a lot of interesting projects that the team have been involved with and am looking forwards to getting my hands dirty.

Purpose of blog: I am not sure yet. I am exposing myself to new technology and testing how effective blogging is as a tool. I am always open for suggestions.
